Stuttering Recovery is a rehearsal app for adults who stutter. This policy explains what the app collects, what it does not collect, and what control you have.
The short version: the app never listens to you. Before you link an account, your work stays on your phone. After you sign in with Apple, your work lives in your account on servers in Canada so another device can open it. The two lines you type to build a rehearsal do leave your phone, because they are what the script is written from.
Your voice
- The app never listens. There is no microphone in it and no audio permission.
- The app asks for no microphone permission and no speech recognition permission, and it captures no audio.
- In the Rehearsal Room the app speaks the other person’s lines out loud. You answer out loud, and you tap to move to the next line. Nothing is listening while you speak.
- There is no recording to find, play back, or delete, because none is ever made.
- The app never judges how you sound. It cannot: it never hears you.
The rehearsal builder
When you build a rehearsal, you type two lines: who you are speaking to, and what it is about. Those two lines are sent to AI, which writes the script. That is what writes it, so it cannot be avoided.
We do not store those lines on third-party servers, and we do not use them to train any AI model. Zero retention is enabled, so nothing is retained once the script is generated. Our logs record how long the request took and how many turns came back — never the text.
If you name a word you are worried about, that word is sent with the request, so the script can put it in a line.
What we collect, and where it goes
Until you sign in with Apple, your moments, notes, difficult words, ladder progress and rehearsals stay on your phone in local storage.
Once you sign in with Apple, your work lives in your account on servers in Canada, so you can sync and access it across devices.
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your account identifier | So your work can be synced and restored | Servers in Canada |
| Apple relay email address (if signed in with Apple) | Account identification through Apple | Servers in Canada |
| Your moments: what you wrote, when it happened, any note and any word you named | So another device can open your work | Servers in Canada |
| Your rehearsals, and the script each one carries | So another device can open your work | Servers in Canada |
| Your difficult words, your weekly reflections and the rung you have reached | So another device can open your work | Servers in Canada |
| What you answered about a moment: did you say what you wanted, did speaking get in the way, did you change words | To show you your own progress | Servers in Canada |
| Product analytics: screens viewed, moments closed, Quick Prep opened | To understand which parts of the app help | Analytics service |
| Subscription status | So the app works on your devices | Apple & subscription |
| Crash and performance reports | To fix bugs | Crash reporting |
We do not ask for your name or your phone number. We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photos, or your browsing history. When you sign in with Apple, Apple provides a private relay email address to identify your account.
Third-party services
| Service | What it holds | Location / Retention |

| AI script generation | The two builder lines, transiently in memory to write the script | Zero retention, no model training |
| Product analytics | Feature usage counters (never free text or voice) | United States |
| Crash reporting | Technical error logs (no user-entered text) | United States |
| Subscription processing | Subscription status to unlock access | United States |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple and App Store purchase processing | Apple’s secure systems |
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never share your data with data brokers.
- We never track you across other companies’ apps or websites. The app does not use the device advertising identifier.
- We never use anything you type to train a model.
- Nothing measures speech. We never score your speech, count blocks, repetitions or fillers, or rate how you sound. The app has no such measurement in it.
Your onboarding answers
The answers you give during onboarding — where speaking gets in the way, which moments are hardest, how often you put one off, where your attention goes — are used to build your first week and to choose your rehearsals. They are held with the rest of your account.
Your moment log and local storage
What you write about a moment, when it happened, the three answers you gave afterwards, any note you added and any word you named, are stored on your phone. That local storage is what the app reads, which is why the app works with no signal at all.
When you sign in with Apple, your work is stored in your account on our servers in Canada. The server holds the whole record, not a summary of it. Security rules ensure only your authenticated account can read and write your data.
Data retention
There is no automatic cleanup job. Your data lives in your account until you delete it.
Deleting your data
The user can delete everything, and Delete means deleted.
Open the app, go to You, and tap Delete account and data. This removes your account, moments, rehearsals, difficult words, ladder and onboarding answers from both your phone and our servers. It cannot be undone.
If your phone cannot reach the servers when you tap it, nothing is deleted and the app says so. That is deliberate: deleting only the local cache on the phone would leave your data on the server.
Deleting the app from your phone also deletes everything stored locally in the cache.
To ask us to delete anything else, email support@stutteringrecovery.com.
Your rights and export
Depending on where you live (including under PIPEDA and GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the data we hold about you, and to object to how we use it. Email support@stutteringrecovery.com and we will respond with a full export of your account data within 30 days.
Children
Stuttering Recovery is for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for a significant change, tell you in the app.

This app is not medical care
Stuttering Recovery is a preparation tool. Fluent speakers rehearse an important call too. It does not diagnose anything, it is not a substitute for working with a licensed speech-language pathologist, and it makes no claim about how you will speak.
The three answers you give are your own judgement of how a conversation went. They are not a clinical measure, and they are not a measure of your speech.
